AR applications. The Valve Index uses a dual LCD display with a 1440 x 1600 resolution per eye. The Valve Index
has a 120Hz display, with the option to bump this up to 144Hz. Inside the box you’ll find the headset itself, the
new Valve Index Controllers and the Version 2.0 Base Stations, which need to be set up around your room. Its
reliance on external trackers puts the Index behind some other VR hardware sets. Overall, the Valve index has
excellent image quality, 130° FOV which is one of the highest on a mass-market headset, Comfortable, user-
friendly headset, Cabling is less intrusive than some other models, good controllers and audio. But on the nega-
tive the price is high and may be out of the reach of most schools, Inconvenient wired connection, still tethered
to a PC, few finger-tracking implementations, speakers sound more natural than headphones, but you lose pri-
vacy. Overall, this VR Hardware system would give SEN students a high-quality VR experience with clear graphics
and a high degree of movement freedom. The headset is comfortable for the student to wear. However, it is not
the most portable system available and lets the student tethered to the PC (which for some SEN students may
be too restrictive) and requires base stations. But perhaps the greatest barrier for many colleges planning to use
this system with their SEN students will be the relatively high cost.
